Biography

I'm developing a generic platform of an active implant for electrostimulaion with bio-sensing, remote programming, wireless data- and energytranfer, and IoT connectivity.

I was VP R&D Vice President Research and Development at Implantica, Zug, Switzerland, since Dec. 2021. Implantica is a medtech group dedicated to bringing innovative advances in technology into the body. Medical implants previously seen as unachievable will seek to alleviate unmet medical needs. This role fostered my Quality & Regulatory as well my System Engineering skills.
Until Nov. 2021, I was Senior Director Design & Engineering at Flex, Althofen, Carinthia, Austria. In this role I was leading the Electronics Hardware-, Embedded Software / Firmware, and Mechanical Design Team. Close corporations within our European and Worldwide organization create innovative and successful devices from idea to mass production, from Sketch-to-Scale. A multicultural and multisegment environment is demanding and enriching at the same time – leading to company’s and individual growth. We design for the medical segment within our Flex Health Solutions Cluster: Milan, Italy; Althofen, Austria; Timisoara, Rumania; and Haifa, Israel. Sharing resources and supporting each other is our daily business. We develop handheld battery-operated multidose auto-injectors, inhalators, loggers for insulin pens, and continuous glucose meters with RFID, Bluetooth, LTE NB IoT connectivity for well-known pharma companies.

Before Flex, I gained 15 years of R&D experience at MED-EL Headquarters, Innsbruck, Austria, an international industry’s technology leader in implantable hearing solutions. I was leading a Design Team for implantable and external neuro-stimulation devices. I have been Project-Leader with budget responsibility. My core competence and experience lie in the development of systems, starting with the idea over the concept up to serial production, including manufacturing transfer. I’m well experienced in working and documenting according to standards and medical device law. I’m co-inventor of patents in the area of wireless communication for active implants.

The Diploma Degree Program “Chemical Process- and Environmental Engineering” at MCI- University of Applied Sciences, Innsbruck, enhanced my interdisciplinary competences to develop devices within multidisciplinary teams while the certification for project management Austria [member of IPMA] was reinforcing my competence to manage projects constructively. Training at Gustav-Käser-Training-International fostered my team-leading skills.

My electronics design career started at the Institute for Experimental Physics at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, with Prof. Anton Zeilinger, who received the Nobel Prize in Physics 2022. Here I gained comprehensive knowledge in quantum-optics, optics, and laser technology. Low noise and high precision circuitry are of great importance in this area.

I have participated in numerous research programs and collaborated with project partners from international Companies and Universities, including University of Cornell, Ithaca, NY, USA; Guelph, Ontario, Canada; Ben Gurion, Ber Sheva, Israel; University of Innsbruck, Austria; and AKH General Hospital Vienna, Austria.
